Activating the GDPR Plugin
The GDPR Cookie Consent plugin provides the option for your website to be GDPR and CCPA compliant. Visitors to your site will have the option to accept cookies as well as opt out of some cookies (see image below).
To activate the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin, go to the GDPR Cookie Consent Tab, and under Cookie Law Settings turn "Enable Cookie Law" on. Here you can also select GDPR, CCPA, or both.
Privacy Overview
When the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin is activated, visitors to the site have the option to click "Accept" or to click "Cookie Settings." Clicking "Cookie Settings" triggers the Privacy Overview popup, which provides more information about the cookies on the website, as well as the option to disable non-necessary cookies.
The text that displays in the Privacy Overview popup can be edited in the Privacy Overview tab, under the GDPR Cookie Consent tab. Make sure to click "Save Settings" when editing is complete!
Cookie Policy page
The GDPR Cookie Consent plugin provides the option to create a Cookie Policy page for your website. Here, visitors to the site can learn more about the cookie policies.
To create and edit the page, go to the Policy Generator tab under the GDPR Cookie Consent tab. Here, the individual sections that will appear on the policy page can be edited. Once editing is complete, click "Create Cookie Page." With the Cookie Policy page created and published, decide where you would like to link to the page on your website.
Cookies and Cookie Laws
"A computer “cookie” is more formally known as an HTTP cookie, a web cookie, an Internet cookie, or a browser cookie. The name is a shorter version of “magic cookie,” which is a term for a packet of data that a computer receives, then sends back without changing or altering it. No matter what it’s called, a computer cookie consists of information. When you visit a website, the website sends the cookie to your computer. Your computer stores it in a file located inside your web browser"

"Companies routinely track users on their websites, but the rules for disclosing website cookies and getting visitors’ consent to use them are murky. Buckley LLP attorneys look at various requirements in the EU and U.S. and offer best practices to stay on top of laws and regulations and keep out of enforcement trouble."
